Is your mind your best friend

or your worst enemy?

Are you in charge of your thoughts and emotions or do they control you and your every decision, or, worse still, leave you paralysed into inaction?

Have you ever wondered why it is some people are more naturally able to set goals and follow through to achieve their wildest dreams, while others (maybe you?) find themselves stuck in a place of self-judgment and recrimination, fear of failure, indecision, and procrastination?

We’ve been through some pretty challenging times recently so most of us can be forgiven for occasionally slipping down that dark rabbit hole of negativity.

But when it happens to you, are you the type of person who disappears down there for hours, days, weeks, or maybe even months or years, or do you have the ability to stop, re-frame and change course to find the gift and opportunity in every adversity in order to create more positive outcomes?

In very simplistic terms, these differences come down to mindset

  • ‘I really enjoyed the six weeks of Positive Intelligence. Marianne Lewis was brilliant at explaining the program at the Pod meetings each week, as the group pushed ourselves and each other to do our very best with the weekly tasks. I especially enjoyed learning how to recognise my inner Saboteurs and how to acknowledge them and push them aside, so that I could live more in my inner Sage. I got a lot out of the course and would recommend it to anyone who wants to be more in control of their emotions, and to develop a deeper understanding of the working of the mind.’

What exactly is a Positive Mindset?

Some people naturally have a very positive mindset which helps them see the world and all the everyday challenges as an opportunity to stretch themselves and grow closer and closer to the best possible version of themselves.

A positive mindset isn’t just about seeing the world through rose-coloured glasses.

It can lead to a more fulfilling and satisfying life, both personally and professionally.  It positively impacts our view of challenging circumstances and stress levels, helps us achieve goals, and build stronger personal and professional relationships.

Studies have shown that positive emotions are associated with lower levels of stress, anxiety, and depression and positively impact a person’s physical health. This is because a positive thought pattern can help you see challenges as opportunities for growth and development.

Today everyone knows the importance of having a positive mindset, and yet most people struggle to bring a positive change into their lives. Keep reading to learn why.

One of the biggest obstacles is that most people stop at awareness and fail to build habits. It’s one thing to know what to do, but quite another to actually implement the strategies into their day-to-day lives.

There are many reasons why people may struggle to build a positive mindset.

Here are a few:

Negative self-talk: People who constantly criticize themselves or focus on their flaws are less likely to have a positive outlook on life.

Lack of self-awareness: People who are not self-aware may not recognize negative thought patterns and beliefs that are holding them back.

Resistance to change: Some people may resist the idea of changing their mindset, either because they don't believe it's possible or because there’s a degree of familiarity and comfort to their current way of thinking.

External factors/ Trauma: External factors, such as stress, trauma, or difficult life circumstances, can make it harder to maintain a positive mindset.

Lack of consistency: Building a positive mindset takes time and effort. It's important to consistently practice positive habits and behaviours. Our age-old beliefs and patterns don’t just melt away the second we shine a spotlight on them.

If you’re thinking, “I’ve heard all this a thousand times before and it hasn’t made one iota of difference to my mindset”, you’re not alone.

Millions of people struggle every day to see the bright side of life and it’s not for a lack of motivation. However, developing a positive mindset is less about knowing that we should be seeing things in a positive light, and more about understanding how to turn the tables on the mental and emotional drivers that keep steering us down that negative spiral. While it’s not an overnight fix, with the right, consistent practice, it’s entirely possible to change the way you think.

PQ Positive Intelligence®

Positive Intelligence (PQ) was developed by Shirzad Chamine, a Stanford lecturer and executive coach. He developed the concept of PQ through his work with Silicon Valley executives and entrepreneurs, where he observed that high IQ and technical skills were not always enough for success. He found that individuals with a high PQ were more likely to be successful in their personal and professional lives.

Shirzad developed the PQ system to help individuals improve their mindset and develop the skills needed to thrive in today's fast-paced and complex world. He has written several books on the topic, including "Positive Intelligence" and "The Mind Whisperer."

What is Positive Intelligence Quotient?

Positive Intelligence Quotient (PQ) is a measure of an individual's mental and emotional strength, resilience, and ability to handle stress and challenges. It is a way to measure one's capacity for positive thinking and mindset.

PQ is based on the idea that the brain has three primary functions: the Saboteur, the Judge, and the Sage. The Saboteur is the negative voice in our head that tells us we're not good enough or that we can't do something. The Judge is the part of us that criticizes and judges ourselves and others. The Sage is the part of us that is calm, wise, laser focussed and insightful.

A high PQ score means that an individual has a strong Sage voice and can use it to overcome the negative influence of their Saboteur and Judge. This leads to greater clarity, focus, and a positive mindset, which can help them achieve their goals and live a fulfilling life.

PQ is a measure of an individual's ability to control their thoughts and emotions and to maintain a positive and optimistic outlook even in difficult circumstances.

In order to make positivity a part of your life, you need to

✔ Intercept and Identify your negative patterns (saboteurs),

✔ Understand where they originated and look at them from a different perspective,

✔ Find a new positive thought/pattern to replace them with (Sage),

✔Practice this new thought pattern daily to make it a habit.
